Courses in The Jockey Club’s East Region have been given a huge vote of confidence by the Racehorse Owners Association, after Newmarket’s Rowley Mile and July Courses, as well as Nottingham and Market Rasen Racecourses, were presented with the Gold Standard Award.
Established in 2006, the ROA Gold Standard Award recognises excellence in the owners’ raceday experience and highlights the achievement of 16 courses, broken down into six large and ten small courses.
The Gold Standard Award focuses on the more subjective aspects of the raceday experience; particularly those elements that “surprise and delight” and are truly memorable. It also looks at how all ownership types and level of involvement are treated – from the syndicate member to the sole owner – as well as considering prize-money, equine welfare and how all those who may have special requirements are able to access and enjoy the day.
Amy Starkey, Regional Director of The Jockey Club’s East Region, said:
“This is a fantastic achievement for the East Region and I am incredibly proud of everybody who has worked so hard to bring about these awards.
“Owners are vital to the health of our sport and providing a fantastic experience on a raceday is one of the best ways of ensuring not only that existing owners remain within racing but that we are attracting new owners to the sport.
“At Newmarket our Owners & Trainers facility is supported by Al Basti Equiworld, to whom we are most grateful. By working in partnership we’ve been able to raise the bar on our offering, which is reflected in our racecourses’ success in these awards.”
