The Simon Munir / Isaac Souede silks were carried to victory yet again as Terrefort won the Grade One Betfred TV Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown Park.

The grey Terrefort went into the early lead but was soon joined by Cyrname.

The latter, a winner at Kempton Park over Christmas, went on at the Pond Fence on the first circuit, with Terrefort second and the paid five lengths clear of West Approach, No Comment and Kalondra.

Racing down the back, Daryl Jacob moved Terrefort back into the lead from Cyrname, with the other three closing.

The front two left their rivals heading out of the back.

Two out and Terrefort made a slight error with the persistent Cyrname refusing to go away.

The two took the last together and fought out a tremendous battle up the Sandown hill.

Both jockeys were all out but Terrefort gamely kept his head in front to narrowly land the spoils from Cyrname, with No Comment back in third.

Jacob said: “I’m delighted Footpad’s won as well. He’s a real contender for the Arkle and it’s great Isaac and Simon have got two wonderful horses.

“We were surprised when he (Terrefort) won at Huntingdon, but he’s improved a lot since then and has come from that wonderful man, Mr (Guillaume) Macaire in France.

“The horse knew his job today. He’s a wonderful jumper. He seems very uncomplicated. He loves to see the fences and wants to attack them.”

Henderson, celebrating a sixth triumph in the race, said: “He’s come straight out of novice handicaps. He’s run a great race and jumped well, but shows absolutely nothing at home.

“It was a moderate handicap he won and he was put up a stone. The handicapper was right, I was wrong.

“I don’t know where we’ll go. I’ll speak to Daryl.”
