Tolworth Hurdle winner Summerville Boy will more than likely head straight to the Cheltenham Festival – with trainer Tom George “leaning towards” a crack at the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle.

George believes the six-year-old has garnered enough experience in the first half of the season and with a Grade One triumph already in the bag, he is happy to head to Cheltenham with a fresh horse.

“I think it’s unlikely he’ll run before Cheltenham now. Nothing is set in stone and he’s come out of the Tolworth well – he’s just doing routine canters,” said the Slad handler.

“We don’t need to run him. He’s got plenty of experience now and he’s an exciting young horse.

“We’re really looking forward to the spring with him. He’s had four runs and he needs a fast-run race to be seen at best effect which, come the big days, won’t be a problem.

“He’s a quick horse but he will stay and whichever race he runs in you do need to stay.

“He’s got the options but we’d be leaning towards the Supreme given how he travels in his races. He also wouldn’t mind if it turns up soft.”
