Former top class chaser Road To Riches made his mark in the hunter chase division with a facile success at Carlisle.

The 12 year-old, a former dual Grade On winner, who also landed a Galway Plate and was placed in a Ryanair Chase and Cheltenham Gold Cup, put his three rivals to the sword in the Cocklakes Open Hunters’ Chase over three miles and half a furlong.

Road To Riches had gone into the lead at about halfway and was starting to pull away from Settledoutofcourt, when Mr Pepperpot fell and badly hampered Financial Climate.

From that point on, Road To Riches and David Maxwell simply pulled further and further clear.

The former Noel Meade inmate, now trained in County Fermanagh by David Christie, cleared the last well and was eased down to win by a wide margin, with Settledoutofcourt coming home second and Financial Climate last of the three finishers.
