Recon Mission put up a game performance to make all in the Pavers Foundation Catherine Memorial Sprint Handicap at York.
A field of 22 took part in this three year-old handicap which has in the past thrown up the likes of future Group One winning sprinters Cadeaux Genereux, Sheikh Albadou and Twilight Son.
As the stalls burst open, Charming Kid missed the break as Magical Wish, Recon Mission, Luxor and Barbill all got away well.
The field bunched, with Recon Mission having the overall advantage from Shallow Hal.
With two furlongs to run, Recon Mission still led with Shallow Hal still there.
But Recon Mission led to the furlong pole with Victory Day closing.
However, Recon Mission held on under Robert Winston, by a diminishing head from Victory Day, with Magical Wish just getting up for third from Cosmic Law.
Recon Mission, a son of Kodiac, had been a useful juvenile last year, when trained in Ireland by Michael O’Callaghan.
He was winning for the first time here, since joining Tony Carroll.
