Nicky Henderson has ruled out a King George VI Chase bid for Santini, following his lack lustre return victory at Sandown Park.

The Lambourn trainer said:

“It is very soft but I don’t know that should be a real problem, he is a big strong horse. It looked very rusty and quite laboured.

“I think you have to conclude that didn’t look like a horse that is going to win the King George I think we take that one out.

“In the Feltham last year he was a good third, but the track really seemed plenty sharp enough for him.

“He hasn’t come out and started the season with a bang but we have plenty of time to work on it.

“He has just got to sharpen up.

“Trials Day was the one we were thinking of, with a race in between.

“He needs to go somewhere else, round about Christmas time, but just not Kempton.”
