Esprit De Somoza is likely to have another run before being prepared for the JCB Triumph Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival.

The four-year-old entered the reckoning for the juvenile championship in March following his surprise success in the Chatteris Fen Hurdle at Huntingdon last week – a victory that was achieved with a good deal of authority.

Trainer Nick Williams said: “We were thrilled with him at Huntingdon. I think the plan is that he’s more likely to end up in the Triumph – that seems to be a perfect fit for him. We’ll give him another run beforehand, but there is no firm plan.”

The Devon-based handler also had news of stablemate Agrapart, who looks set to swerve the Champion Hurdle Trial at Haydock this weekend in favour of the Cleeve Hurdle at Cheltenham on January 27.

Williams said: “It’s more likely that he’ll go for the Cleeve.

“He’s a heavy-ground horse so he would love the ground at Haydock.

“It (Haydock) is still a possible, but if we think we’ll get heavy or soft ground, we’ll go for the Cleeve.”
