Jarvey’s Plate burst a big bubble whilst asserting his own pretensions over fences, in the Listed Low Cost Vans Novices’ Chase at Chepstow.
Three went to post for this race over two-miles and three furlongs, including the smart former novice hurdler Reserve Tank.
Posh Trish took the trio along for much of the race from Reserve Tank, with Jarvey’s Plate and Paddy Brennan the back marker for the majority of the race.
Just three lengths covered the field as they turned into the home straight, with Posh Trish still leading Reserve Tank.
They sprinted to the third last, where Reserve Tank put in a big leap to move in front.
However, Jarvey’s Plate began to warm to his task and landed on terms with Reserve Tank, before careering away in fine style to beat his rival by 4 ½ lengths, with Post Trish third.
The Fergal O’Brien-trained six year-old had been a useful novice hurdler last season, winning at Cheltenham on New Year’s Day. He bided his time on his chasing debut before showing a smart turn of foot.
