Gary Moore plans to step Benatar back up in class for the Betfred TV Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown on February 3.

The six-year-old finished fourth in Grade One company over hurdles at Aintree last term and has won three times over fences this season, most recently when landing a Grade Two event at Ascot.

He beat Finian’s Oscar a short head on that occasion and Moore is now preparing to switch the Ashley Head-owned gelding back up to the highest level.

Moore said: “All being well, he will go to Sandown on February 3 for the Scilly Isles. We thought about going up to three miles, but he is not a slow horse so we will stick to two and a half miles.

“He is still a young horse and I don’t want to stretch him too far this year. I think Sandown will suit him.

“He has not done much since his last run. He has just had an easy couple of weeks.”
