Surrounding keeps getting better with age – and delivered the best performance of her long career, to date, when winning the Group Three Irish Stallion Farms EBF Brownstown Stakes at Fairyhouse.
A field of eight fillies and mares contested this seven-furlong race, including three British-based runners.
Heavenly Holly and Surrounding went on from Perfection, as the race got underway.
Settling down, Heavenly Holly had a ½ a length lead over Surrounding and Perfection to the outside, then came Black Magic Woman and I Remember You.
Turning for home, Heavenly Holly and Billy Lee still held the call, but were challenged by Surrounding, who went on with 1 ½ furlongs to run.
Surrounding and Ronan Whelan powered on in the closing stages and while Perfection and Indian Blessing came home to some effect down the outside, they were still a length adrift at the line.
The Mick Halford trained Surrounding, a six year-old daughter of Lilbourne Lad, has not been out of the first three in her last nine starts and was winning at Group level for the first time here.
