The improving Off You go was most impressive as he beat off the challengers to win the Coral Hurdle at Leopardstown.

One of the season’s big handicap hurdles in Ireland saw a massive field of 28 runners for this two mile race.

At the start it was Low Sun and Off You Go who were among the leaders as the field streamed over the first flight.

Low Sun and Mind’s Eye were followed by Agent Boru in a packed field as they headed out with a circuit to race.

Racing down the back, Mind’s Eye held a narrow lead with Agent Boru and De Name Escapes Me and Low Sun close up and behind then came Ben Dundee, Off You Go and Tudor City.

Leaving the back and turning towards the second last, Mind’s Eye was still in front with Ben Dundee, Midnight Stroll, Off You go and Tandem all close up.

Ben Dundee went on ahead of the home turn with Off You Go looking a big threat and moving to the front approaching the last.
Off You Go landed in front with Tudor City giving chase.

Off You go responded well for Mark Enright and with the rail to help, repelled the late charge from
Deal D’Estruval to land this valuable contest by about a length.

Grand Partner came home third, ahead of Makitorix in fourth.

The Charles Byrnes trained Off You go was racing off bottom weight here, having only lost his maiden tag at Limerick over Christmas.

Mark Enright, who had fallen on That’s A Wrap in the handicap chase earlier on the card, was all smiles.

“I’m still a bit sore but that feels great! When you’re riding in these colours for those men and win, it’s super. And what can I say about the trainer (Charles Byrnes)? He’s a genius.

“I didn’t want to get there too soon but he had won over 2m4f last time and we hadn’t gone much of a pace so I decided to kick on. He was very good.”

Tom Mullins, trainer of the third home, Grand Partner, said:

He’ll be entered in the Coral Hurdle and the County Hurdle at Cheltenham and will more than likely go for the County Hurdle if he gets in. It’ll be Fairyhouse and Punchestown after that.”
