Honeysuckle emerged as a bona fide Champion Hurdle contender as she annihilated her rivals in the Grade One Baroneracing Hatton’s Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse.
Six took part in this 2 ½ mile race.
Killultagh Vic led over the first obstacle from Apple’s Jade and Bacardys, with Honeysuckle next and then Davids Charm and Penhill.
Racing down the home straight, Killultagh Vic was about 1 ½ lengths ahead of Apple’s Jade, with a two-length break to Honeysuckle. The leader was clumsy over the first in the straight.
Killultagh Vic continued to bowl along in front and moved two lengths up on Apple’s Jade.
As they took the fourth last, Killultagh Vic landed ahead of Apple’s Jade who closed up on him as they headed to the third last and the mare went on, with Honeysuckle to her outside and Bacardys looming large.
Turning for home, Apple’s Jade was tackled by Honeysuckle and they moved on from Bacardys and Penhill.
Honeysuckle took over as Apple’s Jade sadly dropped away and the final challenger was Bacardys at the second last.
But Honeysuckle drew right away in authoritative style under Rachael Blackmore and went clear at the last, jumping well and coasting home for a wide-margin win.
At the line, she was about 10 lengths clear of Bacardys, with Apple’s Jade coming home third.
The Henry De Bromhead-trained Honeysuckle , still just a five year-old, is now unbeaten in six starts.
