Broome led a Ballydoyle clean sweep in the Group Three Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at Leopardstown.

Seven three year-old colts ran in this recognised Derby trial, over a mile and a quarter.

Blenheim Palace went on from Sovereign and this pair, were soon three lengths clear of Python, with those in behind strung out.

Up front, Blenheim Palace and Sovereign continued to blaze a trail from Python, Guaranteed and Buckhurst.

The leaders came back to the field leaving the back, with Blenheim Palace under pressure and just in front of Sovereign, while Python was also under pressure.

On the home turn, Sovereign joined Blenheim Palace, with Brome beginning to close and then Rakan.

Broome went on and went two lengths clear at the line in workmanlike style, ahead of Blenheim Palace and Sovereign, in an Aidan O’Brien clean sweep.

Broome was less spectacular here, than he had been in the Ballysax Stakes, but Donnacha O’Brien gave his stable mates plenty of distance, before picking them up.
