Battleoverdoyen had to work hard but eventually came home well on top in the Grade Two Liam & Valerie Brennan Memorial Florida Pearl Novice Chase at Punchestown.

Seven took part in this 2 ¾ mile contest.

As the tapes went up it was Dandy Mag who went into the lead from Sayo and Any Second Now, with three fences omitted due to the angle of the sun.

Dandy Mag eventually reached their first fence and jumped across it, although he was clear of Battleoverdoyen and Any Second Now.

With a circuit to race, Any Second Now went through into a narrow lead on the inside of Dandy Mag, with Battleoverdoyen and Ex Patriot next, while Sayo sat last of the seven, about seven lengths behind the leader.

An error down the back cost Dandy Mag second place momentarily, while Any Second Now continued to lead, however, the former moved back to dispute first place.

Four out and Any Second Now and Dandy Mag continued to trade blows, with Battleoverdoyen poised in behind them.

Three from home and Any Second Now had a clear lead, with Battleoverdoyen jumping into second and this pair drew clear of Ex Patriot on the home turn.

Battleoverdoyen went on between the final two fences and leapt well at the last, keeping up the gallop resolutely to beat Any Second Now by about four lengths, with Ex Patriot coming home third.

Davy Russell had to keep Battleoverdoyen up to his work on the flat, but the Gordon Elliott trained six year old made is six wins from seven career starts and extended his unbeaten run over fences to two.
