The Willie Mullins-trained Bacardys put down an early staying hurdle marker for the season, with a comprehensive defeat of Apple’s Jade in the Grade Two Lismullen Hurdle at Navan.
Five took part in this 2 ½ mile contest, with all eyes on Apple’s Jade, who was bidding to win the race for a third successive season.
The multiple Grande One-winner was soon to the fore with Grand National runner-up Magic Of Light.
The two mares led by a couple of lengths from Bacardys, with a gap to Dysios and another to The Ballyboys.
With a circuit to race, Apple’s Jade held a length lead over Magic Of Light and Bacardys.
There was little change in the order, as they had four left to jump.
Magic Of Light came to join Apple’s Jade, as they approached the home turn, with Bacardys three lengths back and the other two horse well adrift.
Apple’s Jade took three out with a slender lead and Robbie Power was asking for more.
Two out and Bacardy’s ambled alongside the mare and drew away heading to the last.
A good jump at the final flight sealed an impressive victory under Paul Townend and Bacardys won by about ten lengths, with Magic Of Light back in third.
