Zulu Alpha denied Magic Wand a famous victory in the Grade One Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
A dozen horses took part in this 9 ½ furlong contest.
Ryan Moore quickly took Magic Wand into the lead, moving from a wide draw to the inside, racing into the first turn.
Settling down, Magic Wand held a slender advantage over Henley’s Joy, with Next Shares and Instilled Regard close-up, as they raced down the back stretch.
Heading to the far bend, seven lengths covered the whole field as the pace began to increase.
Magic Wand was under pressure into the final turn, with Henley’s Joy unable to close.
But Zulu Alpha burst through on the inside under Tyler Gaffalione and his turn of foot settled the matter.
At the line, Zulu Alpha had two-lengths to spare over Magic Wand, with Instilled Regard third, ahead of Sacred Life.
