Wells Bayou made virtually all to run out the winner of the Grade Two Twinsires.com Louisiana Derby at Fair Grounds.

This recognised Kentucky Derby trial attracted fourteen runners over a mile and a half a furlong, on the dirt.

Florent Geroux and Wells Bayou were gifted an easy early lead and it was one they never looked in danger of relinquishing.

Into the home stretch, Wells Bayou was comfortably in front and he passed the post with a 1 ½ length advantage over Ny Traffic, with Modernist taking third.

It was a big-race double for the jockey and also trainer Brad Cox, as Wells Bayou staked his claim for the Kentucky Derby, scheduled to be run in September.
