The 2016 Cartier Racing Awards nominees are unveiled today, Sunday, November 6, following the end of the British season at Doncaster and the Breeders’ Cup in America, both of which took place yesterday.

There are five nominees for the most prestigious equine award, the Cartier Horse Of The Year, which will be revealed late on the evening of Tuesday, November 8, at the 26th annual Cartier Racing Awards, along with the winners of the seven other equine categories plus the Cartier/The Daily Telegraph Award of Merit.

The five Cartier Horse Of The Year nominees are French ace Almanzor, Arc winner Found, Breeders’ Cup Turf hero Highland Reel, the incredible three-year-old filly Minding, and Juddmonte International victor Postponed.

The seven other equine awards have four nominees in each – they are listed in alphabetical order below.

Harry Herbert, Cartier’s Racing Consultant, commented: “There has been brilliant racing throughout 2016.

“The nominations for the 26th Cartier Racing Awards reflect the wonderful horses who have raced in Europe and beyond this year.

“The Cartier Racing Awards are eagerly awaited and the evening of Tuesday, November 8 will be a thrilling event.”

The 26th annual Cartier Racing Awards are presented at a glittering ceremony before an invited audience of 300 at the Dorchester Hotel, London, England, on the evening of Tuesday, November 8, 2016.

The Cartier Racing Awards were established in 1991 to reward excellence in horseracing. There are eight equine awards, ranging from the Cartier Horse Of The Year to the Cartier Two-Year-Old Colt and Cartier Two-Year-Old Filly.

In addition, the Cartier/Daily Telegraph Award of Merit goes to the person or persons who, in the opinion of the special 16-strong Cartier Jury, has/have done the most for European racing and/or breeding either over their lifetime or within the past 12 months.

European horseracing’s top awards are delivered through a tried and tested combination of points earned by horses in Pattern races (30%), combined at the end of season with the opinions of a panel of racing journalists (35%) and votes from readers of Racing Post and The Daily Telegraph plus Channel 4 Racing viewers (35%).
