Magical Memory is likely to have his next race over five furlongs at either Goodwood or York.
The Charlie Hills-trained sprinter finished out of the first four for the first time in nearly two years when only seventh in the six-furlong July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday.
“He’s fine, but Frankie (Dettori) felt at no stage did he ever get a clear run,” said Sam Hoskins, racing manager for owners Kennet Valley Thoroughbreds.
“He probably over-raced as a result, but he would never have beaten Limato.
“We’re a bit disappointed, but he’s not had a hard race and we might try him over five furlongs next as he’s got a huge cruising speed.
“The obvious races are the King George at Goodwood and the Nunthorpe at York.
“As Twilight Son didn’t run his race and we are so closely matched with him, we’re a bit in the dark.
“But we’d beaten Suedois twice this season so we should have been somewhere near him at least.
“He might not have run his race, but hopefully he will next time.”
