Luck in running plays a big part in racing and was beautifully demonstrated as the perfect gap opened up for Lady Eli – who was more than good enough to take her opportunity and ran out an impressive winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.

There was a late scratching when Lady Zuzu kicked out at the starting gates and was pulled out of the contest as a precautionary. That caused a considerable delay.

When the runners were finally despatched Lady Eli was away quickly but almost instantly reigned-in by Irad Ortiz, Jr. and Sunset Glow scorched her way into the lead followed by Isabella Sings and Nicky’s Brown Miss and those three took the field along.

Racing into the far turn Sunset Glow still held the advantage but as they turned for home she made the error of swinging too wide, presenting the perfect opening for Lady Eli, who sneaked through on the inside and shot clear of Sunset Glow who was clear of the fast finishing Osaila and Prize Exhibit.
