Paul Nicholls is not completely ruling out Silviniaco Conti bidding for a third victory in the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

The 10-year-old claimed the Boxing Day showpiece in 2013 and 2014, but was pulled up when chasing the hat-trick 12 months ago.

He did record a seventh Grade One victory in February’s Ascot Chase, but was pulled up in the Grand National and was well beaten on his latest appearance in the Betfair Chase at Haydock.

Nicholls said: “I’m going to confirm him at the five-day stage, but if they’re all in it he won’t go.

“We’ll keep our options open. We will leave him in next week and make a decision nearer the time.

“If Thistlecrack didn’t run and there was only five or six in it, we might be tempted as he’s won the race before and he likes the track, but I just want to look at it first.

“I don’t think they need to be worrying about us on this year’s form and there’s every chance we might be better off waiting for the race he won at Ascot last year.”
