There was a surprise outcome to the Group 2 Prix de Sandringham as Impassable was delivered with a late flourish to mug her rivals at Chantilly today.
Night Of Light and La Berma were the early leaders, with the latter pressing on in the first furlong as the rain fell at Chantilly.
Racing into the home straight it was La Berma who led Night Of Light by 1 ½ lengths with Mexican Gold settled in third and Via Manzoni racing on the inside.
La Berma quickened at the two furlong pole and her pursuers seems to be caught flat-footed in the softening conditions, as the leader took a couple of lengths out of her rivals.
Night Of Light and Mexican Gold were laboured as they tried to close the gap and the threat came from Impassable and Maxime Guyon who flew home down the outside and passed her three rivals inside the final quarter furlong and was going away at the line.
La Berma ran a game race and finished a gallant second, with Night Of Light getting the better of Mexican Gold in what turned out to be no more than a battle for third place.
