Henry Candy is favouring the Breeders’ Cup Mile over the Turf Sprint for July Cup winner Limato.
The Wantage trainer is worried Limato’s chance in the sprint event would be ruined if he was slowly away from the stalls.
Although Candy reckons that is the easier of the two options, he is convinced Limato will last out the mile.
He finished fourth in the Lockinge at Newbury in May on his only attempt at the longer trip.
“We are still heading to Santa Anita at the moment,” said Candy. “He seems in good form.
“He will be entered in both on Monday and we will take a decision later in the week. He will probably run in the mile.
“I feel the sprint is the easier race, but heading down that hill and round the corner – if he has one of his dozy moments in the stalls – which he hasn’t had yet – it shall be game over.
“He will certainly get a mile on a flat track.”
