Flaxman Holding’s Erupt exploded in the stretch, charging past rivals on his way to winning the Group 1 Pattison Canadian International by a length at Woodbine October 16.
Finishing second in the Canadian International was The Queen’s Dartmouth, providing sire Dubawi with a one-two finish in the race.
Benefitting from a perfectly-timed ride by jockey Stephane Pasquier, Erupt was settled in fourth, just behind the leaders, through the early stages of the race. As the field swept through the far turn and entered the homestretch, Dartmouth had overtaken the long-time leader World Approval, and appeared to be on his way to victory. Erupt was moving swiftly on the outside however, and displayed an impressive turn of foot as he charged past Dartmouth in the final furlong to win convincingly.
It was the second Group 1 Stakes win for Erupt, who captured the Group 1 Juddmonte Grand Prix de Paris as a three-year-old.
Erupt was bred in Ireland and races as a homebred for the Niarchos family’s Flaxman Holdings. Erupt is out of Mare Nostrum (by Caerleon), winner of the Group 3 Prix Vaneaux, and is a half-brother to Stakes winner Marie De Medici. Erupt hails from the family of Group 1 Stakes winner Aube Indienne, and champions La Voyageuse, L’Enjoleur, and Medaille d’Or.
Erupt is the fifth Group 1 winner sired by Dubawi in 2016, joining Postponed, Journey, Left Hand, and Wuheida. Dubawi is also the sire of 30 individual Stakes winners this year, including the aforementioned Intimation, Move Up, and Powder Snow, just to name a few.
