Coillte Las continues to climb the novice hurdle ranks and put up her most impressive performance to date to win the Listed Totepool Chip & Pin Betting Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Taunton this afternoon.
Six went to post for the big race of the day and it was Westerbee who jumped off in front of Coillte Lass but was very keen and failed to settle.
Racing down the straight, Westerbee was clear of her field and passed the post with a circuit to race and a five length lead over Coillte Lass, with Dusky Legend matching strides with Theatre Territory.
At the third last, Westerbee still led, although her margin was greatly reduced and Coillte Lass quickly went on around the home turn, moving into a three length lead from Dusky Legend who started to close racing down hill, the race effectively a two-horse affair, with Theatre Territory unable to close.
Coillte Lass took the last flight well and stormed to an impressive win over Dusky Legend, with Theatre Territory third.
This was a big early success for the Ditcheat Thoroughbreds syndicate, formed earlier this year. The Paul Nicholls trained 5 year old had shown promise in point to points and is now three from three over hurdles.
“Look how many owners are here, it’s amazing,” Nicholls told At The Races.
“Part of having a syndicate is having a lot of fun like they’ve had today and that means a lot to them.
“She’s a good mare and has just kept improving. I was a little bit worried about the trip, but it was a good performance.
“I’m thrilled for all the owners.”
