Clondaw Cian will bid to book his Cheltenham Festival ticket at Wincanton on Boxing Day in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle.

The Suzy Smith-trained six-year-old made his seasonal bow, and first start outside of novice company, a winning one in an intermediate hurdle at Cheltenham last month.

Plans are now in place to aim him at the extended two-mile-five event on Monday in an attempt to get qualified for the Listed prize at Prestbury Park on March 16.

Smith said: “Clondaw Cian is going to the Pertemps qualifier at Wincanton on Boxing Day. This has been the plan since Cheltenham as we just want to get him qualified for the race.

“The two-mile-five-furlong trip might be a bit on the sharp side for him but he is fresh and well and is ready to go. It is a case of fingers crossed now.”
