Catch A Glimpse came back to her brilliant best to make it eights wins on the trot with a sensation performance in the Grade 1 Belmont Oaks Invitational Stakes at Belmont Park this evening.
Thirteen high class fillies went to post including the Aidan O’Brien pair Ballydoyle and Coolmore. The latter, posted widest of all, badly missed the break and had to be vigorously ridden to tag across and join the leaders, with Catch A Glimpse soon at the head of affairs.
Catch A Glimpse took the first bend ahead of Coolmore, who had made up lots of ground, with Auntie Joy and Land Over Sea next, while Ballydoyle, also not too quick away, raced in the second half of the field.
Down the back stretch, and Catch A Glimpse, last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf Fillies winner, continued to set the fractions under Florent Geroux and the field became strung out.
Catch A Glimpse powered on and into the home straight, was clear of Coolmore and extended her advantage smoothly and impressively.
Coolmore simply had no answer, having delivered her challenge on the home bend but having been burnt off.
Catch A Glimpse imperiously went on but in the final furlong Time And Motion began to closer hand over fist. However, Catch A Glimpse had done enough and held on comfortably to remain unbeaten on turf, with her only defeat coming on debut.
Coolmore ran an honourable race in third, with Pricedtoperfection fourth, but Ballydoyle ran a dismal race and trailed in last of all.
