Boondooma will be examined this week having returned “slightly lame” after being pulled up in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on Saturday.

Victorious at the Prestbury Park track in October on his first run since December last year, the Dr Richard Newland-trained gelding was prominent in the betting for the Grade Three feature.

However, he dropped away quite quickly and was well behind when rider Will Kennedy drew stumps before two out.

Newland said: “Boondooma came out of the race slightly lame, so he has got his excuses.

“We will get him checked out this week and get to the bottom of it.

“He has not run his race and he was beaten too far out to say it was the trip. It was just not his day.

“He will have an easy week and we might target the December meeting back at Cheltenham. If not, we will wait until the spring with him.”
