Trainer Michael Bell has confirmed Big Orange’s participation in the Emirates Melbourne Cup at Flemington on November 1.

The five-year-old gelding, owned by Bill Gredley and twice a winner of the Goodwood Cup, finished fifth to Prince Of Penzance in the great race in 2015.

Connections are now happy to let Big Orange once again head to Australia after he was allotted a weight of 8st 11lb – 1lb higher than in last year’s Melbourne Cup.

Bell told the Daily Mail: “The performances Big Orange has produced on the track and his physical development from four to five years old suggests he has improved by more than a pound.

“I have spoken to Mr Gredley and he is keen to go.”
